We've put together a list of essential do and don't to make sure you get the most out of your caravan over the years.
Caravan Interior
1. Cupboards and drawers closed and latched.
2. Refrigerator door locked, and containers with liquids sealed.
3. Hatches and windows are closed and locked.
4. No loose item in cupboards and on shelves.
5. TV and microwave are secure.
6. Interior load distributed correctly.
7. Fire extinguisher and alarm operational.
Caravan Exterior
1. Gas bottle fitted and secure.
2. Water tank filled.
3. Brakes tested and adjusted.
4. Wheel bearings adjusted.
5. Wheel nuts tight and tyres pressure checked.
6. Check you have current insurance
Preparing to move your caravan
1. Jockey wheel removed and secure.
2. All lights operating correctly.
3. Gas turned off and fridge on 12V.
4. Tyres inflated to correct pressure.
5. Doors and windows locked.
6. Jacks raised or safety stands removed.
7. Wheel chocks removed.
8. Hand brake off.
9. Electrical link between car and van secure.
10. 240V electrical lead disconnected.
11. Steps raised.
12. Towing aids fitted.
13. Safety chains fitted.
14. Awning arms secured.
When your caravan is not in use
1. Check regularly for leaks etc.
2. Use fridge occasionally.
3. Protect tyres from sun.
4. Pop Tops:- open regularly.
5. Protect plastic from the sun.
6. Take weight off tyres (for long storage).
7. Fit security locks (especially hatches).
8. Keep gas lines and bottles secure from moisture.
9. Rust prevention.
10. Change water.
